England Golf Urgently Requests Government Funding for 2030 Women's Golf Showcase Bid

Women's Golf Championship Tournament

The most recent Solheim Cup taking place in Europe took place in Spain last year, with the next tournament scheduled for the Netherlands in 2026.

In the wake of Europe's recent Ryder Cup triumph, England Golf is calling on the government to support its bid to host the premier women's golf event on English soil for the first time.

This prestigious contest between the top female golfers of Europe and the United States has taken place twice in Scotland as well as once in Wales yet never in England. A bid has been put together to organize it at The Grove in Hertfordshire in 2030.

However organizers are seeking £30m to support this proposal and at present just ten million pounds is in place. The organizing body is urgently seeking public backing to underwrite the shortfall.

The location has previously hosted a World Golf Championships tournament and features hotel facilities suitable for the needs to organize an event such as this caliber.

Funding Details

To host the men's equivalent on European soil would cost more than £400m however for the Solheim Cup the requirement is about £30m.

"We're looking for circa £20m from the government to underwrite it," the executive stated.

"And that's in addition to already a significant investment from The Grove and our organization and potentially other partners we intend to invest."

Time Sensitivity

The spokesperson declined to confirm that negotiations have stalled, but admitted: "Certainly there exists a challenge presently concerning whether or not public authorities can finance events like this."

"The government has proven, including from a world athletics perspective, including female competitions, that they are ready to invest public money for certain events."

"I think should we receive supportive decision within the next month, we could to obtain the tournament for England."

He summarized: "I don't have the funding at present; our proposal doesn't move forward. The situation could transform soon if I got the thumbs up, however the timeline is urgent."

Official Position

Official pre-election commitments during the campaign declared support to organizing international events and seeking fresh possibilities to inspire the next generation of talent and supporting physical activity and wellness.

After requests for comment, an official from the government said: "The UK enjoys global recognition for hosting major sporting events and we aim to preserve this status."

"We have an impressive schedule of competitions over the coming years, from the Women's T20 World Cup two years from now up to supporting a bid to organize the Fifa Women's World Cup in 2035."

"Backing for future bids will be based on a range of criteria such as how well they produce community and financial advantages for Britain."
